The Origin of Musical Notes
Musical notes have deep roots. The Epitaph of Seikilos, one of the oldest compositions (1st century BC), used a primitive denotation system. See how the monk Guido of Arezzo (992-1050) revolutionized music with the tetragram, precursor of the staff, and named the notes inspired by the hymn of Paul the Deacon:

Types of Musical Notes
